NOBLE SQUARE — The wait for a Wicker Park-West Town Checkers is finally over.
After being delayed by more than a year, Checkers opened its doors Monday at 1555 W. Division St. Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, though that’s subject to change, an employee said.
The chain serves hamburgers, wings and “famously seasoned” French fries, among other things.
Located at the confluence of Noble Square, East Ukrainian Village and Wicker Park, the restaurant is attached to and shares an address with Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, which overlooks the Polish Triangle.
Checkers initially announced it’d open in July 2019. Popeyes opened, but Checkers did not.
For more than a year, the opening date for Checkers remained a mystery. Last winter, Checkers announced a Dec. 27, 2019, opening. Then a Dec. 30 opening. In January, the restaurant’s opening date was pushed back indefinitely.
