LOGAN SQUARE — Street artist JC Rivera, best known for “Bear Champ” murals across the city, is putting on a solo show you can enjoy without getting off the couch.
Rivera has teamed up with Logan Square gallery All Star Press at 2775 N. Milwaukee Ave. on the show, called “Still Undefeated.”
The show will feature a range of Rivera’s works, from original paintings to handmade objects, “a closer look at [Rivera’s] artistic practice, the bear champ and the art of boxing,” according to a news release.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the gallery won’t be open to the public. Instead, gallery leaders have created a virtual model of the gallery experience that folks can access on the All Star Press website.
“We deeply appreciate your understanding and support in our efforts to keep the art alive and gallery safe,” gallery leaders said in the release.
The first 100 people interested in buying a piece will get access to the show Dec. 12. The show will open to the general public Dec. 13.
Rivera has become a force in the street art scene, his “Bear Champ” murals recognized all over the world.
The Puerto Rico native has created large murals, paintings and “whimsical figures … proudly influenced by pop art, street and cartoon culture” in Chicago for about a decade, according to the gallery.
