CHATHAM — As temperatures drop and fall gives way to winter, several coat drives are in full swing to keep Chicago residents warm for the holidays.
Chatham clothier Traphouse Chicago is collecting coats for its drive through Dec. 5, with the goal of receiving 200 new or gently used coats by their deadline.
People can drop off coats at the South Side location at 744 E. 79th St. or the location in Noble Square at 1418 W. Division St. Email the staff for store hours and drop-off times: contact@traphousechicago.us.
Wonderful Woman Wednesday Chicago is organizing a “Drive Up Coat Drop-Off” Dec. 9, at Morgan Park High School, 1744 W Pryor Ave. Drop off new or gently used coats, hats, blankets, scarves and other cold weather items between 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Beyond Athletics Chicago, a nonprofit that offers programs and resources to youth in underserved communities, is also accepting new or gently used coats through Dec. 18. Donors can contact one of the volunteers to schedule a pick-up or delivery time in a safe location by calling 312-399-0282 or emailing dgates@beyondathleticschicago.org.
Looking for a contactless way to give back? Chai City Tees is teaming up with the InnerCity Muslim Action Network and the Downtown Islamic Center for its Winter Coat Drive. Customers can donate $25 towards a coat, or $12 towards a winter warmth kit and receive a free package of Cupcake Tea.
Retailers Hair Mafia Chicago, Chi City Apparel and Be’Loved Boutique are hosting a coat and toy drive through Dec. 22. Donations can be dropped off on site at either store: 4726 S. Ashland Ave. or 4765 S. Ashland Ave. Contact Ms. Goldie at 773-430-3443 or Ms. Sherry, 872-209-7025.
The Brown Beret National Organization is looking for new or gently used warm weather items, jogging pants, socks and canned food items for its drive through Dec. 19.
Donors can drop off items at one of several South Side locations: Canton Regio, 1510 W. 18th St.; Law Office of Juan M. Soliz/ Unity Native American Tribe, 3203 S. Pulaski Rd.; Back of the Yards Coffeehouse, 2059 W. 47th St.; Taqueria Mi Barrio Es Tepito, 2645 W. 63rd St.; Chicago Midwest Made, 1517 W. 18th St.; The Trim Barber Shop, 3837 E. 106th St., El Charro de San Francisco: 3655 E. 106th St.
