WICKER PARK — Police seized $200,000 in weed that was delivered to a Wicker Park vacation rental — and then took to Twitter to warn away other potential pot parcels.
The Shakespeare (14th) District’s tweet showed side-by-side photos of a mailbox meant for letters to Santa and bags stuffed with cannabis.
“Fyi, if you send a letter to the Jolly Ole Elf you might not always get a response, if you send your narcotics to a vacation rental in the the 14th District you might not get your goods. Especially if the 14th District tactical team sniffs out your $200,000 delivery.”
The police poster added emojis of Santa, a sleigh, a mailbox and hands clapping to underscore the point.
The at least six boxes of weed shown in the tweet weren’t delivered by the U.S. Postal Service or another commercial service, police said. Instead, officers got a tip from a man who said he watched someone unloading the boxes around 2 p.m. Friday into a garage behind the 2000 block of West Crystal Street, police spokesman Steve Rusanov said.
When a tactical team checked it out, they found the weed.
