LOGAN SQUARE — Ald. Daniel La Spata’s 1st Ward Office is hosting a neighborhood cleanup of Humboldt Boulevard next week.

The cleanup will begin 10 a.m. Dec. 5. Cleaning supplies — rakes, gloves, bags and masks — will be provided by La Spata’s office. Neighbors are encouraged to RSVP online.

The event will focus on cleaning up Humboldt Boulevard between Palmer Street and The 606’s Bloomingdale Trail. The idea came from resident Hayley Krolik.

Krolik, 22, was on a walk with her dog, Mary, when she noticed trash and discarded food littered across the boulevard.

“Trash just really collects in these beautiful spaces,” said Krolik, a Northwestern University graduate who has lived in Logan Square since September.

When Krolik suggested a cleanup on Nextdoor, neighbors chimed in to say they’d help, so she reached out to La Spata’s office for support.

“The opportunity to come together as a community are few and far between during this pandemic, so taking advantage of something that will be outside and safe and really help make this space more beautiful for all of us is a great thing to participate in,” she said.
