UPTOWN — A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the robbery and fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Uptown man walking in the neighborhood last week, according to Chicago Police.
Jhonny Guaman was walking in the 900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue around 2 p.m. Oct. 29 when someone approached and robbed him before firing shots, authorities said.
Guaman, of the 4100 block of North Broadway, was struck in his chest and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The brazen afternoon shooting took place near Broadway and Belle Plaine Avenue in Buena Park. Police cars descended on the intersection the afternoon of the shooting.
Guaman worked at two Lincoln Park restaurants, Dog Haus Biergarten and Athenian Room, according to the business owners.
A GoFundMe has been started by Guaman’s coworkers, hoping to ease his family’s cost of the funeral.
“Jhonny was a wonderful young man with a great work ethic, who was well mannered and loved by all,” Athenian Room’s management wrote on Facebook. “He will be greatly missed.”
Police on Thursday afternoon arrested the 15-year-old in the 1100 block of South Hamilton Avenue and charged him with first-degree murder.
The teen is due in bond court Friday.
