CHICAGO — Block Club Chicago, a nonprofit newsroom focused on Chicago’s neighborhoods, was named a finalist for Best News Website in Editor & Publisher’s national EPPY Awards.

CNN Digital took top honors in the category.

Block Club was also honored as a finalist for the Best Community Service award as part of the “Lens On Lightfoot” collaboration. The project examined how Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s policies and proposals align with promises she made on the campaign trail and during her first year in office.

The Better Government Association, Chalkbeat, The Chicago Reporter, La Raza, The Daily Line and The TRiiBE were also partners in the project. The collaboration was convened by the Institute for Nonprofit News and made possible with support from the McCormick Foundation.

Block Club Chicago is a reader-funded, journalist-run nonprofit newsroom dedicated to covering Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods. It was launched in June 2018 by former DNAinfo Chicago editors following the shutdown of DNAinfo in November 2017.

The hyperlocal newsroom’s work is made possible by nearly 14,000 subscribing members, the 3,143 Kickstarter backers who supported its launch and the support of foundations and donors.
