LOGAN SQUARE — Logan Square families looking for Halloween fun can get everything they need to decorate pumpkins at home at Unity Park this weekend.

The Unity Park Advisory Council is giving away pumpkins and craft bags Saturday at the park, 2636 N. Kimball Ave. The “pumpkin fest” event kicks off at 10 a.m. and will run while supplies last. Candy will also be given out.

For the past 20 years, the Unity Park Advisory Council has hosted a pumpkin festival with a pumpkin patch and decoration stations in the lead-up to Halloween. But this year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event is a to-go affair.

Folks are encouraged to wear their costumes to the giveaway, but there will be no costume parade this year.

Masks are required and social distancing will be enforced.

If the event gets rained out, it will be held 10 a.m. Sunday instead.

Those who decorate pumpkins are encouraged to post photos on social media and tag the Unity Park Advisory Council using the hashtags #PumpkinFestToGo and #MyPumpkin.
