CHICAGO — State officials reported that 47 more people died from coronavirus in Illinois in the past day and 2,206 more confirmed cases were revealed from testing.
There have now been 8,743 deaths and 297,646 confirmed cases in the state since the start of the pandemic.

The state’s positivity rate fell slightly to 3.4 percent. The rate is the percentage of tests administered in the past seven days that have come back with a positive test for COVID-19.
In Chicago, the positivity rate held at 4.3 percent in the past day. The city is averaging 316 new cases per day.
As of Thursday night, 1,678 people statewide were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 373 patients were in intensive care, including 162 people on ventilators.
