CHICAGO — The state of Illinois Thursday reported 2,166 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and 25 additional deaths in the past day.
There have now been 295,440 confirmed cases in the state and at least 8,696 deaths.
The state’s positivity rate fell slightly to 3.5 percent. The rate is the percentage of tests administered in the past seven days that have come back with a positive test for COVID-19.
In Chicago, the positivity rate ticked up slightly to 4.3 percent in the past day. The city is averaging 304 new cases per day while expanding its testing. An average of 8,609 tests are now administered each day in the city, said Dr. Allison Arwady, commissioner of the city Department of Public Health.
As of Wednesday night, 1,635 people in Illinois were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 359 patients were in the intensive care and 149 patients were on ventilators.
