CHICAGO — An additional 2,273 people tested positive for coronavirus in Illinois in the past day and 35 more people died, officials said.

There have now been 8,672 deaths in the state from COVID-19. A total of 293,274 positive tests have been reported out of the 5.6 million tests administered.

The state positivity rate stayed stable at 3.6 percent. The rate is the percentage of tests administered in the past seven days that have come back with a positive test for COVID-19.

As of Tuesday night, 1,632 people in Illinois were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 378 patients were in the intensive care units and 152 were on ventilators.  

In Chicago, there have been 2,959 deaths. An additional 302 people tested positive in the city in the past day. The city’s positivity rate dropped to 4.2 percent. It had been 4.6 percent last week.
