BUCKTOWN — Bucktown is getting a new taco restaurant in the former home of Luella’s Gospel Bird.
Boca Loca Taqueria, 2009 N. Damen Ave., will open this fall, owner Marc Wuenschel said.
The taco spot is Wuenschel’s second Bucktown opening this year. Last month he opened Savannah Luncheonette, 1954 W. Armitage Ave., just around the corner from Boca Loca.
A West Town resident, Wuenschel said he long dreamed of opening neighborhood restaurants in Bucktown. Wuenschel also owns Hutch Cafe in River North and Hutch Bistro in Lakeview.

Boca Loca replaces Luella’s Gospel Bird, which closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Eater reported.
Darnell Reed opened Luella’s Gospel Bird in 2018 as a smaller offshoot of Lincoln Square’s popular Luella’s Southern Kitchen, which opened in 2015.

Wuenschel said he is aiming for an October opening.
A sister restaurant, Boca Loca Cantina, will also open in River North this fall.
