CHICAGO — More voters than ever are expected to vote early or to vote by mail come this Election Day.

Election Day is officially Nov. 3, but voting starts much earlier in Chicago: Early voting will kick off Oct. 1 and officials will start sending out vote-by-mail ballots Sept. 24.

People who get a vote-by-mail ballot can fill it out and mail it in as soon or possible — or, if they want to ensure it’s safely processed without burdening the Post Office, they can take the ballot to an early voting site and put it in a secured drop box.

Officials are urging people to take advantage of these options so they can keep polling places from getting crowded Nov. 3, thereby protecting voters — and poll workers — from coronavirus.

Here’s where you can vote early in person or drop off your vote-by-mail ballot:

When Early Voting Sites Open

The Loop Super Site opens Oct. 1. Any Chicago resident will be able to go there to vote early, drop off a vote-by-mail ballot or register to vote.

Starting Oct. 14, all the other early voting sites — one per ward — will open. Not sure which ward you live in? Look it up with your address here.

Hours

Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Election Day, Nov. 3: 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
