Michigan Avenue Gunfire Leads To Police Chase, Crash Over Dan Ryan Expressway

The chase ended when the shooter's car crashed into another car on Roosevelt Road over the Dan Ryan, where at least one person was arrested, police said.

LITTLE ITALY — Midday gunfire Downtown at Michigan Avenue and Ida B. Wells Drive Tuesday led to police chase and crash near the Dan Ryan Expressway, police said.

After the shots were fired around noon Tuesday, a gunman got into a car and fled. The shots were not fired at or by police, a police spokesman said.

Police gave chase and arrested four men after their car crashed into three others at Roosevelt Road above the Dan Ryan, police said. A gun was found on the scene.

Davarius Minor, 21, and Daquan Dunn, 20, were charged in the incident, police said. Minor was identified as the person involved in a shots-fired incident that took place minutes earlier in the 600 block of South Michigan Avenue and Dunn was identified as the driver who fled that scene before causing a multi-vehicle crash on the 600 block of East Roosevelt Road, police said.

Minor was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, having no FOID card, and aggravated discharge of a weapon, police said.

Dunn was charged with aggravated fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident and a misdemeanor count of reckless driving, police said.

Both men are scheduled to be in bond court Wednesday.

One person was taken to an area hospital from the scene in good condition after suffering injuries in the crash, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.

It’s not clear if the injury occurred to someone in the car being chased, he said.
