CHICAGO — A postal carrier was shot while working Thursday in Burnside.
At 11:38 a.m., the carrier, a 24-year-old woman, was working in the 9100 block of South Ellis Avenue when someone shot her multiple times, police said.
The woman was hit in the back of her head, her stomach, her legs and her buttocks, police said. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
Police don’t think she was the intended target. The gunmen were in cars and sped by when they fired the shots that hit the woman.
An investigation was ongoing. No one was in custody.
Police offered few details during a news conference Thursday afternoon, though they asked for community members to send in tips if they knew anything.
Officials said the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a $50,000 reward for information about the shooting.
Those with information can call 312-747-8271.
