LINCOLN SQUARE — Neighbors can roll up their sleeves and help tidy up the river banks near Lincoln Square Saturday.
Lincoln Square North Neighbors is organizing the cleanup as part of the Friends of the Chicago River Summer Challenge.
Volunteers will gather at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gross Park, 2708 W. Lawrence Ave. They’ll be divided into groups of 10 to allow for socially distanced cleaning of both sides of the river closest to Gross Park and River Park, said Max Bever, a board member with the neighborhood group.
Volunteers are asked to RSVP by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. This will allow the organizers to make sure they have enough cleaning supplies and help them plan out staggered times for the groups clean while remaining socially distant.
Lincoln Square Neighbors North will provide gloves, bags, buckets and grabbers. Volunteers are asked to wear masks, sturdy shoes and to tie their hair back or wear a hat.
“We know the river has been a special place for neighbors to enjoy, especially in the pandemic. Let’s leave the place cleaner than when we found it,” Bever said.
