RIVER NORTH — PAWS Chicago is trying to find permanent homes for pets that have been at the shelter for a long time.

PAWS will waive adoption fees through Saturday for such cats and dogs to help them find homes as part of its Virtual Clear the Shelters Adoption Week, according to a news release.

Some of the eligible animals have special requirements, like needing an adults-only home or help navigating due to vision loss.

The pets up for adoption include dogs like Chestnut, a Labrador retriever mix; Pierre, a 4-year-old shepherd mix; and Vance, a 5-year-old cat who needs a lot of space and attention.

Anyone interested can apply to adopt a pet online. Adoption requirements and a refundable training deposit still apply.
