PILSEN — Chicagoans missing the movie theater experience can head to Pilsen on Tuesday as ChiTown Futbol is opening the only drive-in movie theater in the city.
ChiTown Movies will open the drive-in theater Tuesday at the ChiTown Futbol facility, 2342 S. Throop St. “Star Wars: A New Hope” will be shown 8:50 and 11:50 p.m. daily through Monday. The film’s audio will be played through cars’ FM radios.
Tickets start at $33 per car for five adults. Additional adults will be charged $5. You can buy tickets online. Customers can buy food and drinks, which will be delivered to cars.
Attendees are assigned parking spots 6 feet from other cars. All attendees are asked to wear masks when leaving their car to use the bathroom.
ChiTown Futbol owner Bryce Bowman said in a press release the organization wanted to offer new and accessible entertainment.
“We believe that a nostalgia-filled drive-in movie experience offers a way for friends and families to enjoy a night out while continuing to adhere to social distancing and other local guidelines,” Bowman said. “We look forward to welcoming people from all over Chicagoland to experience a movie at our brand new drive-in theater.”
No other drive-in theaters are open in Chicago, and traditional movie theaters have been shut for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
