IRVING PARK — A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death Thursday in Irving Park.
At 3:15 p.m., officers were told the boy had been attacked in the 3700 block of West Irving Park Road, police said. Someone grabbed a knife out of a backpack and stabbed the teen in his chest. He was taken to Illinois Masonic in critical condition.
The boy, Joseph Monge, was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m. at the hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
An officer at the scene Thursday said the attacker and Monge got into a fight and the attacker pulled a knife out, stabbed Monge and ran away. Monge walked until he collapsed in an alley just north of Byron Street in between Hamlin and Ridgeway avenues.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
More than a dozen officers were searching the alley at 4 p.m. Thursday. Some officers searched garbage cans while others asked neighbors if they saw anyone run through the area.
Drivers attempting to enter the alley were redirected by police.
