NEAR WEST SIDE — The eighth annual Windy City Smokeout featuring Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish has been canceled due to coronavirus.
Organizers of the outdoor festival announced the event originally scheduled for July 10 in the United Center parking lot has been postponed until July 9-11, 2021.
“We are truly sorry to announce that Windy City Smokeout will not take place this year due to COVID-19,” organizers wrote on their website Monday.
“We love nothing more than enjoying a weekend of country music [and] BBQ with you, but the health and safety of you, our beloved artists, pitmasters and employees [have] always been our top priority. While this decision wasn’t easy, it is necessary to keep everyone safe.”
Rucker and other headliners Dierks Bentley and Jon Pardi will return for next summer’s festivities, organizers said.
Organizers will issue refunds online until June 17, 2020. All tickets will be honored for next year’s festival and attendees will receive credit for food and beverages.
For each ticket attendees choose to keep, Windy City Smokeout will donate to Feed Chicago, an organization dedicated to providing food to underserved communities and frontline workers.
