CHICAGO LAWN — Families living in or near the Southwest Side will have an opportunity to receive a free poultry package, thanks to one local company hoping to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
El Ray USA Meats & Seafood, a food distribution company headquartered in Auburn Gresham, is teaming up with Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Ald. David Moore (17th) to give away 40,000 pounds of poultry Saturday morning, from 9 a.m to noon, in Marquette Park, 6700 S. Kedzie Ave.
The gesture is meant to support front line workers and essential employees keeping the city afloat as it continues battling the pandemic.
“These are hard times for everyone and El Rey USA would like to give back and help community members through the tough economic times that our city is experiencing,” said CEO Daniel Leon, Sr. in a statement.
The giveaway will be enough to feed over 4,000 families, Leon said. Residents can drive up to the site to receive their package, and are urged to remain in their cars. Social distancing requirements will be observed.
