BOWMANVILLE — Residents of the 40th Ward in need of a protective mask can come to Bowmanville Saturday morning to pick up free masks from Ald. Andre Vasquez’s office.
The masks will be distributed starting 11 a.m. Saturday at 5333 N. Western Ave., which is a Street Sanitation parking area. Masks will be given away to one mask for each person in a household.
Cars should travel north on Western Avenue and make a right turn into the drive-thru area. Cars will not be allowed to make left-hand turns from Western to pick up the masks.
Anyone who wants to volunteer at Saturday’s mask giveaway should fill out this form.
Local businessman and ex-mayoral candidate Willie Wilson donated 20,000 masks to the ward last week. Mayor Lori Lightfoot sent 2,000 masks last Thursday and the 40th Ward’s sewing guard has made nearly 500 cloth masks as of Sunday.
Anyone who needs a mask from the 40th Ward’s stockpile but can’t make it to Saturday’s event is asked to fill out this form or to call 773-654-1867.
Gov. JB Pritzker’s new stay at home order started last week and requires people ages 2 or older to wear a face covering when they’re not able to social distance, like inside a store or on a crowded sidewalk.
