South Siders Can Get A Free Mask Friday And Tuesday In Auburn Gresham

The mask giveaways start at noon until and will go until supplies run out.

AUBURN GRESHAM — South Siders still in need of protective face gear can get a free masks at two events starting Friday before the state’s new mask rule goes into effect May 1.

Starting at noon Friday, masks will be given out on 87th Street at the Dan Ryan until supplies are gone. At noon Tuesday, masks will be be distributed at 95th Street and South Ashland Avenue.

Ald. Howard Brookins (21st), Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, Rep. Justin Slaughter (D-IL) and the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation are sponsoring the mask giveaways.

With confirmed cases of COVID-19 rising in South Side neighborhoods like Auburn Gresham, local officials have taken controversial measures to keep residents safe. Alds. David Moore (17th) and Derrick Curtis (18th) joined Brookins to implore Southwest Side residents to adhere to the shelter in place rule earlier this month.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Racial Equity Rapid Response Team and the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation will also host a virtual town hall for Auburn Gresham residents at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Viewers can watch via Facebook Live or call in at 312-535-8110, using the access code 964-351-919.
