CHICAGO — Austin Coming Together is distributing free masks at three locations in Austin Thursday.
Masks will be available from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at:
• Westside Health Authority Youth Development Center, 5437 W. Division St. in North Austin
• By The Hand Club For Kids, 415 N. Laramie Ave. in Central Austin
• Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 601 S. Central Ave. in South Austin
Coming Together Austin will also be passing out coronavirus best practices for staying healthy. The group is one of the community anchors for the city’s Racial Equity Rapid Response Team that is addressing the health disparities exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.
“With the recent reports of how COVID-19 is taking the greatest toll on the Black community, the importance of addressing the disparities that exist in Chicago is paramount as it is also a well-known fact that the social determinants of good health are not in our favor,” executive director Darnell Shields said.
Volunteers at the pop-up COVID-19 resource spots will also spread the word about the tele-town hall the Racial Equity Rapid Response Team is streaming live on Austin Coming Together’s Facebook page at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The virtual community meeting will share information on local efforts to tackle the epidemic and will give residents a chance to offer feedback on outreach efforts.
