CHICAGO — A third Chicago Police officer has died from coronavirus.
Officer Ronald Newman, a 19-year veteran of the force, died early Friday at Little Company of Mary Hospital from complications of coronavirus. He had been hospitalized since March 26 and last worked March 22.
Newman, who was 59 years old, is survived by his wife and two children, police spokesman Tom Ahern said in a tweet.
Newman was a “brave, courageous hero,” said new Chicago Police Supt. David Brown at a Friday press conference.
Newman’s colleagues “said he was a person that everyone liked to work with,” said police union President Kevin Graham.
Two other Chicago Police officers have died so far, including Marco Di Franco, the first officer to die from the virus.
