It's not Fly Honey season yet, but the dancers are offering classes and live streamed performances for folks stuck at home.

The 10th annual Fly Honey Show will debut Aug. 8 at The Den Theatre, 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave.

WICKER PARK — Every summer, the Fly Honey dance troop packs the Den Theater in Wicker Park with fans for live dance performances unlike any other in town.

Now, the dancers and choreographers behind Chicago’s favorite “fierce and feminist dance and variety show” are showing you how to shake it in your living room.

Choreographer and director Erin Kilmurray created The Fly Honey Show ten years ago, incorporating high-energy large group dance ensembles, story telling, comedy and musical performances — all of which are backed by a nine-piece live band.

With such things banned due to the stay at home order, the Fly Honeys are launching two different sets of online gatherings: a dance workshop and a livestream of past performances. The virtual events begin Friday.

The “Honey From Home” dance workshop will be streamed at 7 p.m. via Instagram Live (@theflyhoneys).

Taught by Fly Honey choreographers, the workshops will be held several times weekly, at various times, and are free with suggested donations on a sliding scale. Each week will focus on one dance sampled from past seasons.

If you’d prefer to stay on your couch, the Honeys are also offering a “Live from the Hive” compilation of archived shows previous years.

Tune in at 8:30 p.m. Fridays through May 1.

The show has previously performed in Wicker Park at The Den Theatre, 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave. All theater and music venues are closed through at least May 1 under Gov. JB Pritzker’s stay at home order.
