CHICAGO — A second Chicago Police officer has died from coronavirus.

The officer has not yet been identified, but his or her death comes just a week after officer Marco Di Franco died and only days after Chicago firefighter Mario Araujo died from COVID-19.

“Those heroes are special and should be taken note of,” Gov. JB Pritzker said at a Friday afternoon press conference.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi announced the officer’s death on Twitter, saying the department was “beyond heartbroken to share that another one of Chicago’s finest has passed away from complications of #COVID19.”

Di Franco’s death was determined to have occurred in the line of duty, though it was not immediately clear if that would also be the case for the second officer who died.
