PILSEN — A local chamber of commerce is handing out free food to Pilsen families Wednesday in the South Side neighborhood.
The Economic Strategies Development Corporation, formerly known as the Eighteenth Street Development Corporation, will pass out food to families starting at noon Wednesday at the Pilsen Wellness Center, 2319 S. Damen Ave.
The chamber is working with the Pilsen Wellness Center and Centro Sin Fronteras on the project, said Alex Esparza, ESDC executive director.Produce was donated by Sysco, and some additional items were donated by Enriquez Produce and were stored at Blue Island Produce.
The chamber hopes to help 250 families Wednesday, Esparza said.
Some of the food items being distributed include: black beans, oranges, cheese, yogurts, apples, peas, orange juices, potatoes, and lemons and limes.
