BRONZEVILLE — The Bronzeville Save A Lot is permanently closed, according to company officials.

The store at 4701 S. Cottage Grove Ave. was closed after a review that considered “a number of factors, including financial performance as well as strategic alignment with long-term plans,” director of communications Sarah Griffin said.

“We take the decision to close any Save A Lot location very seriously,” she said. “Unfortunately, as a result of this review, we closed our South Cottage Grove Avenue store on March 13.”

The closure has no relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, Griffin said.

Griffin recommended customers visit the nearest location at 344 E. 63rd St.

Save A Lot closed its Auburn Gresham location at 7908 S. Halsted Street earlier this year.

The company did not reach out to Ald. Sophia King’s (4th) office about the closure, spokesperson Mack Thurman said.

Residents have not told King’s staff that they’ve been affected by the closure of a grocery store during the pandemic, and have only called to find out why the store has closed, he said.

“We will work with the owners of the mall to find out more information on the closure and we will work with all stakeholders to help find a suitable replacement for Save A Lot,” Thurman said.
