UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — The Fifty/50 group will begin giving away meals to anyone who’s been laid off due to the coronavirus.
Any person furloughed or laid off from a restaurant, bar, hotel, salon, retail or other business because of the virus are welcome to a meal.
Contact-free pickups will be available at The Fifty/50, 2047 W. Division St., from 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
The meal giveaways begin Wednesday.
The free food offerings will rotate daily. View the upcoming week’s menu online.
The meals are being funded by an anonymous Chicago tech CEO, Fifty/50 co-owner Scott Weiner said in a press release.
“We’ve always worked hard to be great corporate partners in the communities that support our establishments,” he said. “All of the food that we are serving is being purchased from local Chicago food distributors who are suffering right there alongside of us.”
The group is asking recipients not to take more food than they need and to observe “strict social distancing rules.” Cones will mark standing spaces.
In addition to Fifty/50, which is in Ukrainian Village, the restaurant group manages Roots Handmade Pizza, 1924 W. Chicago Ave., and West Town Bakery, 1916 W. Chicago Ave.
