IRVING PARK — A woman told police she was sexually assaulted by an Uber driver Sunday night after being picked up in Lakeview.
About 7:40 p.m., the 28-year-old woman left a bar in the 3300 block of North Sheffield Avenue and got into a car operated by a ride-hailing service, according to police.
Uber confirmed Monday that one of their drivers was behind the wheel.
The woman said the car’s driver sexually assaulted her before dropping her off in the 3300 block of North Karlov Avenue, police said.
“What’s been reported is horrible and is something that no one should go through,” Uber spokeswoman Kayla Whaling said. “We have been in contact with the Chicago Police Department and have removed the driver’s access to the app. We will fully cooperate and provide any information to police to support their investigation.”
She was taken to Community First Hospital and was in good condition.
Area North detectives are still investigating and police said they know who the driver is. No one was in custody as of Monday morning.
Police had no further information available.
