LOGAN SQUARE — A new taco restaurant will replace Tacos Garcia, which closed a few months ago after more than 30 years in business.

Tacos Loteria is taking over the Tacos Garcia spot at 3327 W. Armitage Ave., according to a public notice sent to neighbors. The new restaurant is applying for a liquor license.

Details are scarce. Benjamin Prozinski, listed as the agent of Tacos Loteria’s limited liability corporation, didn’t return messages seeking comment.

Tacos Garcia closed in November for financial reasons. Owner Marisela Perez told Block Club that money had gotten so tight that she couldn’t afford to renew her liquor license.

The restaurant dated back to the 1980s. Perez and her husband were the third owners of the restaurant, the original owners being the Garcias.

Tacos Loteria will likely have a new look and feel. Crews ripped out the restaurant’s facade and appear to be gutting the inside.
