HERMOSA — A staff member at Nixon Elementary in Hermosa has been removed after alleging engaging in inappropriate conduct with a student, the interim principal told parents in a letter this week.

In the letter sent Tuesday, Nixon’s interim principal, Diana Gomez Rodriguez, said the allegations do not involve sexual misconduct, but did not provide any further details.

Rodriguez said the staffer has been removed as officials investigate.

“We will update the school community if it is determined that it is safe for this person to return,” the principal said.

“Please know that we are taking this situation seriously, and we remain committed to providing your children with a safe, positive learning environment where they can reach their full potential.”

Rodriguez could not be reached for comment Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Chicago Public Schools said she could not provide any information beyond what was in the letter.

Nixon Elementary is located at 2121 N. Keeler Ave. in Hermosa.
