Community Arts Wicker Park aims to create a community land trust nonprofit to buy property and establish a long-lasting arts institution.

WICKER PARK — A group aiming to create a permanent arts institution in Wicker Park will lead a discussion on the future of neighborhood arts this week.

From 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Volumes Bookcafe, 1474 N. Milwaukee Ave., the Community Arts Wicker Park will give a presentation and lead a discussion.

Wicker Park and Bucktown neighbors, as well as members of the arts community at large, are invited. Ald. Daniel La Spata (1st) will be in attendance, according to a Facebook event.

Community Arts Wicker Park was founded by Alma Wieser, co-owner and director of Heaven Gallery, 1550 N. Milwaukee Ave., in an effort to curb the displacement of artists in Wicker Park.

Community Arts Wicker Park aims to create a community land trust nonprofit to buy property and establish a long-lasting arts institution. 

Today, Community Arts Wicker Park has more than a dozen organizers, including a banker, a nonprofit director and an attorney.
