IRVING PARK — A teenager was shot while riding bike Wednesday night in Irving Park, police said.

At about 8:40 p.m., the 16-year-old boy was riding his bike in an alley in the 3000 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue when someone inside a dark sedan fired a gun at him, police said.

The boy’s leg was hit by the bullet and he was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, 836 W. Wellington Ave., where he was last listed at stable, police said.

The teen was riding with someone else on the bicycle who was not injured.

A gun was recovered from the scene and video evidence is being reviewed, Ald. Rossana Rodriguez (33rd) said on Facebook Wednesday.

“We are working closely with 17th District and will update everyone as more information becomes available,” she said.

The shooting happened on a residential street a block south of Bateman Elementary School, 4220 N. Richmond St., and a few blocks southeast of where a series of shootings and graffiti at the end of last year led to neighbors in the area successfully demanding more police to patrol the area.

Area North detectives are investigating and no one is in custody at this time.
