AVONDALE — Sipping Turtle Cafe, a new spot serving locally roasted coffee and sandwiches, is now open.
The cafe at 2959 N. Milwaukee Ave. is currently having a soft opening and will officially open its doors Feb. 20, said co-owner Peter Shen.
Shen, an Albany Park native, opened the cafe with his wife, Sarinporn Intongkam, who recently moved to Chicago from Thailand.
The couple, who now live down the street from the cafe, aim to provide a homey experience they say is lacking at other neighborhood cafes and coffee shops.
“We were talking about what do we want out of it — we want it to feel like home. We want it to be accessible to the community,” Shen previously said.
The cafe has a minimalist vibe with plants hanging from the ceiling. On the drink menu is locally roasted Stivers Coffee and smoothies, as well as hot tea, cold tea and bubble tea. For lunch, the cafe offers baked goods, croissant sandwiches, open-faced sourdough sandwiches, Asian buns, soups and salads.
“Besides the fact that we can walk here, we want to support the community. Our goal is to be as welcoming as possible,” Shen previously said.
The cafe’s hours are 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekends.
