LOGAN SQUARE — As snow flurries started to accumulate during Wednesday’s evening commute, someone fired shots on a busy stretch of Milwaukee Avenue near the Spaulding Blue Line entrance, snarling traffic but causing but no injuries.

The shots were fired right in front of Midlane esports, the gaming center and lounge set to open next week at 2741 N. Milwaukee Ave.

At about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Chicago Police officers cordoned off the area with yellow tape and placed several evidence markers along the sidewalk. Traffic was backed up along Milwaukee Avenue.

According to an officer on the scene and other witnesses, someone fired shots sometime before 5 p.m. and a car was hit. The officers found shell casings on the scene.

Officer Steve Rusanov, a Chicago Police spokesman, said the Police News Affairs department wasn’t notified of a shooting at that location, however.

“All we have from responding officers is a criminal damage to vehicle report,” Rusanov said in an email.

A witness, who asked not to be named because she was concerned about her safety, said she had just gotten off the Milwaukee Avenue bus a block south when she heard three or four gunshots and flashes of light.

She then saw someone “shuffling” away and ran in the opposite direction.

Visibly frazzled, the witness said, “I still don’t know how I feel because it just happened.”
