CHICAGO — A man tried to lure a 9-year-old girl using candy Tuesday in Garfield Park, police said.
At 9:15 a.m., the girl was in the 3100 block of West Carroll Avenue, walking to school, when a man walking by himself tried to talk to her, according to a Chicago Police community alert. The man walked up to the girl and offered her candy.
The girl ignored the man and he followed her as she ran toward her school, police said.
The man was black, had dreadlocks and wore a black winter coat, police said. He had a spiderweb tattoo on his face.
Police advised adults not to let children walk or play alone and to identify safe spots along children’s routes to and from school. They also suggested adults call 911 to report suspicious people, cars and activity.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police at 312-747-8380.
