IRVING PARK — Detectives are still trying to figure out why a man and a woman were both shot in their knees last week in the Irving Park neighborhood.

Someone shot the 35-year-old man and 37-year-old woman when they were in a parking lot in the 4200 block of West Irving Park Road on Jan. 19 around 5:26 a.m., police said.

Both the man and woman were shot in their left knees. The victims took themselves to Community First Medical Center, 5645 W. Addison St., where they told police they had a parking lot altercation that led to the shooting.

They were last listed in fair condition. Area North detectives are still investigating what happened.

“The specific circumstances of the shooting incident remain pending as both victims have conflicting accounts of the incident,” said Kellie Bartoli, a police spokesperson.

A neighbor who lives nearby called 911 after hearing gunfire that day.
