AVONDALE — A Walgreens employee was stabbed Monday after he tried to stop two men from stealing beer from the pharmacy, according to police.
The stabbing happened around 8:35 p.m. Monday at the Walgreens in the 3400 block of West Belmont Avenue, police said.
Two men tried to leave the store with beer they didn’t pay for when the employee, a 27-year-old man, tried to stop them. One of the men then took out a knife and stabbed the employee in his hand.
Police said the men dropped the beer and then ran off.
The employee was taken to Community First Hospital where he is listed in good condition.
No one is in custody and detectives are investigating.
