UPTOWN — The Uptown community will usher in the Year of the Rat Saturday with the Argyle Lunar New Year Celebration.
The annual neighborhood celebration of the Lunar New Year will take over the corner of Argyle and Winthrop avenues beginning at noon on Saturday.
At 1 p.m., a parade will kick off at Argyle Street and Winthrop Avenue before heading east along Argyle, south along Sheridan Road, west along Ainslie Street and north along Broadway back to Argyle.
After the parade wraps up at about 1:45 p.m., a series of performances including live music and lion dances will take place at Argyle and Winthrop.
There will be a number of family friendly pop-up events at Saturday’s celebration, including Lunar New Year art workshops at Latin School of Chicago, 4956 N. Sheridan Rd. and a noon Year of the Rat story time and crafts hour at the Bezazian Library, 1226 W. Ainslie St.
From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Axis Lab will host an interactive art and food station curated by Hai Minh Nguyen and Giau Minh Truong.
A number of businesses along Uptown’s Asia on Argyle stretch will be celebrating the New Year with offers and events.
