CHICAGO — The city’s largest no-kill animal shelter will let you adopt an adult dog for free Saturday.

PAWS Chicago is hosting the event to find permanent homes for older dogs, who are “often ignored for their younger puppy counterparts,” according to a news release from the shelter. To make it even easier, the shelter will waive adoption fees for dogs 7 months and old.

Adult dogs come with unique benefits, PAWS said: They’re often house-trained, know basic commands and don’t necessarily have as much energy as puppies.

Those who adopt will still have to meet PAWS’ typical requirements and will have to pay a $100 training deposit, which is refunded when training is done.

The event is 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln Park Adoption Center, 1997 N. Clybourn Ave.
