ROSELAND —A Roseland church was destroyed by a massive fire Monday afternoon.

Around 12:40 p.m., a fire broke out in a two-story building at 11034 S. Michigan Ave., according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Beacon Light Ministries is located in the building.

As crews battled the blaze, heavy smoke could be seen from the Dan Ryan Expressway and beyond. Ultimately, the roof of the building collapsed.

Crews had extinguished the blaze as of 3 p.m. and one firefighter was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park with a minor injury, the department said. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
