IRVING PARK — Police have a suspect in custody after a fatal stabbing in Irving Park early Tuesday morning.
At about 3:45 a.m., police responded to a report of a man laying on the sidewalk in the 3700 block of North Sacramento Avenue. When officers arrived, they saw the man on the sidewalk had been stabbed in his stomach, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
“At this time, the victim is a John Doe and his age is not yet known,” said Kellie Bartoli, a police spokesperson.
A person reportedly responsible for the stabbing remained on the scene and was placed into custody by police. Charged are pending against that person, Bartoli said.
Area North detectives are investigating.
A cause of death and the identity of the victim was not immediately available from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office Tuesday.
