EDGEWATER — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man accused of attempted sexual assault near Foster Beach Saturday.

At about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, a 34-year-old woman was walking near the beach in the 5200 block of North Lake Shore Drive when a man approached her from behind, police said in a community alert.

The man grabbed the woman and forced her to the ground, police said. He tried to remove the woman’s clothing and exposed his genitals, but the attack was thwarted when the woman was able to scream for help to a nearby pedestrian, according to police. The attacker then ran away.

The attacker is described as a black man, aged 18-20 years old and standing about 5-foot-10 to 6-feet. He was clean shaven and seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants and a black t-shirt.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8261. Anonymous tips can be submitted to cdptip.com.
