EDGEWATER — A 33-year-old man was hospitalized after jumping into Lake Michigan near Edgewater Monday, according to police.

The man jumped into the lake near the 5200 block of North Lake Shore Drive Monday, a police spokesperson said. He managed to pull himself out before onlookers called 911 just after 1 p.m.

Over a dozen first responder vehicles arrived on the lakefront, as well as a helicopter and a police boat. Police and firefighters found the man on a pier before putting him on a stretcher and taking him to nearby Weiss Hospital.

The water temperature near the shore was 36 degrees Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The man was listed in good condition, police said.
