AVONDALE — Revolution Brewing is celebrating the legalization of recreational marijuana in Illinois with a new beer.
Revolution’s taproom at 3340 N. Kedzie Ave. will be open from 2-8 p.m. Jan. 1 for a special release of Legal Hero, “a sticky, dank and juicy” new beer.
“Legal-Hero is a celebration beer for our local fans who are seeing change happen right before their eyes,” Revolution owner Josh Deth said. “It was illegal to drink beer in this country at one point too. We’re cheering the liberalization of marijuana laws in Illinois, and some of the historical wrongs that can be righted as a result.”
The beer, a double dry-hopped Hazy IPA, does not contain THC or CBD.
But as many beer fans will be quick to tell you, Humulus lupulus — the hops used to brew beer — and Cannabis sativa — marijuana — have similar taste and smell properties and are both members of the Cannabaceae family.
Legal-Hero was created to showcase the deep, grassy and resinous qualities of Strata — a new hop variety Revolution’s brewers selected to brew the beer with alongside with Eureka! and Columbus hops.
During the release event, Legal-Hero will be available on draft and to go in four-packs of 16-ounce cans. Food will also be available.
Legal-Hero will then also be available at the Revolution Brewpub at 2323 N. Milwaukee Ave. when it reopens at 11 a.m. Jan. 2.
Ahead of the beer’s release Revolution also provided a guide on how best to pair Legal-Hero, which can be found below.
