3-Year-Old Boy Shot Outside Douglass Library In North Lawndale, Police Say

The boy, shot in the arm, was in serious condition, but his condition has stabilized. A 35-year-old man was also shot, police said.

NORTH LAWNDALE — A 3-year-old boy and 35-year-old man were shot just outside of Douglass Branch Library in North Lawndale Thursday morning, Chicago Police said.

At about 9:17 a.m., two men approached the 35-year-old man outside the library, 3353 W. 13th St., and both began shooting at him, police said. The 3-year-old boy was sitting in a a car nearby and was shot in the arm, according to police.

The young boy was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, but his condition has stabilized. The man was shot in the heel and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said.

A police squad car nearby was also hit by bullets in the shooting, but no officers were injured.

Police detectives are reviewing surveillance footage in the area.

No suspects are in custody. Area Central detectives investigating.
