BOWMANVILLE — If you love Big Star tacos and Half Acre beer, you’ll soon be able to get both at the brewery’s Balmoral Avenue location.
The two Chicago favorites announced they are teaming up at the Bowmanville location, which opened in 2015. The building at 2050 W. Balmoral Ave. is Half Acre’s main production facility, and it offers a large taproom and beer garden.
Starting next year, Big Star’s Mexican street food-inspired bites from James Beard-winning chef Paul Kahan will be served there. The menu will include Big Star’s tacos alongside new items exclusive to the brewery.
Half Acre founder Gabriel Magliaro said he’s been a fan of the One Off crew since their early days.
“They helped define our ideas on hospitality,” Magliaro said. “We’ve been kicking around in the same circles and neighborhoods while spending time in their restaurants for many years.”
The partnership between Half Acre and Big Star came to fruition, naturally, over beers in the Half Acre Balmoral beer garden.
“With so many great local breweries, we’ve always believed Half Acre is truly one of the best, not only in the Chicago market but throughout the U.S. But just as important as their beer, they’re great people and we really like hanging out with all of them,” said Terry Alexander, a partner with One Off.
Half Acre and Big Star’s new partnership will also allow for opportunities to create beer together and will incorporate an event program at Half Acre’s Balmoral brewery for groups of up to 200 people with Big Star’s catering arm.
