Uptown's three-story advent calendar in the windows of the Wilson Abbey building will return for a fourth year on Sunday.

Each day before Christmas starting Sunday, a new window display will be unveiled.

UPTOWN — A three-story Uptown building will once again be turned into a giant advent calendar celebrating the holiday season.

On Sunday, the building at 935 W. Wilson Ave. will unveil the first day in the calendar. Advent calendars count down the days until Christmas, with each day in the countdown revealing a new design (or in some cases a gift).

A new design will be revealed each day between Sunday and Christmas Day. This year’s Wilson Abbey Windows calendar will display “celestial themes with a mix of magic realism” in each of the building’s windows, a press release for the event states.

“This year there will be doves in outer space,” said Karl Sullivan, co-founder of Everybody’s Coffee and manager of the building at 935 W. Wilson Ave. “Our objective is to show the intensity and beauty of the advent season.”

The artwork will be composed of sculptures, textiles, layered paintings and lighting. Sullivan is responsible for some of the art, and he collaborated with Suzanne Stewart, Genesis Winter and other artists.

This is the fourth year for the calendar at Wilson Abbey. Organizers continue to produce it to spread joy around the holidays.

“I’ve seen cars stop and slowly drive by kind of in astonishment because you’re not expecting it in this neighborhood, all these windows filled with art and light kind of in the middle of December,” Sullivan previously told Block Club. “It’s this beautiful artwork and it kind of takes you away.”

Neighbors can follow along with the calendar reveals at the event’s Facebook page here.
